Theoretical Education:
Innherred Ultralight Club do not organize any theoretical education, but recommends its pupils either to apply to a course online or with another club which do offer theoretical class room education. But before the student will be allowed to fly solo, he/she will have to pass a theoretical test which is organized by the educational manager in the club. This test need to be passed before any solo flight is to be done. The test follows the NAK stated standards, and covers the following:
- Laws and regulations - airspace rules.
- Navigation, planning of flights
- Metherology, weather influence on flying
- Aerodynamixs, the basis of flight theory
- Motor and Propeller, specially for the motors used in ultralights
- Preflight and security, regarding airplane parts and how to maintain them
- Instruments and equipment, what is needed and how they work.
Airmanship is an integrated part of all the above, the cyllabus is the theoretical demands for a PPL-A licence. (Private Pilot Lience). Exams is to be held after completed education with a test for a Klass 1 instructor.
Membership in Innherred Ultralight Club:
In order to be allowed to fly more than the introductory trip, you will have to have a membership in Innherred Ultralight Club. You register yourself on this address: http://melwin.nak.no/4daction/W_NyttMedlem/ Remember to choose Mikroflyseksjonen under [Seksjon], Innherred Mikroflyklubb under [Klubb] and SENIOR under [Kategori]
Medical declaration:
Another condition in order to fly solo, is that you need to have passed a medical check at a general physician. Please download the medical form and a sheet to glue around a C5 envelope on these pages at NLF: http://www.nak.no/mikro/html/Publikasjoner/publikasjoner.html , look under publications.
Bring these the doctor when you go there for the medical check. The doctor fills in the form, and you cross on the outside of the envelope. One relative which knows you very well, will then have to sign that you do not suffer from any epilleptical diseases. The envelop will then be sent to NLF with your application for a full licence when your training is completer. The medial demands are a bit less rigid than for the PPL-A licence, and the medical check is there for less expensive. If your age is under 40, you will have to have a medical check every 5th year. Between 40 and 50 the medical check lasts for 2 years, and above 50 your medical check will have to be retaken every year. Renewing your medical check can be done up to 45 days before the last date of the previous one. This is neccessary in order to keep the original end date, ref BSL C1-2
Student licence:
Everyone who is to have training in ultralight flying need to get a student licence. This is issued by the NLF/NAK secretary, and all inquiries can be done to Inger Aslaksen phone number 23 01 04 52 or manager Tom Bjerke at phone number 23 01 04 75.
Practical Education:
The practical education can start as long as you have got your student licence and is a member of Innherred Ultralight Club, you are by this also a member of NLF-Norwegian Air Sport Federation. Innherred Ultralight Club offers training in aricrafts of the 3-axis control type.
In the beginning it is a very unusual feeling to be avle to control an aircraft in all 3 axes. The first hours most students feels rather helpless, and think it usually is to many things to think about at the same time. Especially planes with tail wheels are difficult to manage during takeoff and landning. In order to achieve control over tail wheel landings it does demands greater training compared to trike airplanes with a nosewheel. The reward is in the reality, if you fly taildraggers, you can fly anything.
Especially on rough surfaces and snow it is a big advantage with a tail dragger, since the nosewheel is prone to break in sharp bumps and it have a tendency to dig into mud and snow before you get the speed up.
After a while of flying, the intstinctive sensation of flying kicks in. The increased level of control and the attention slowly goes toward the view and where you are flying, instead of the instruments and the wingtips. It is then the great joy of flying for real will come.
Your hours are noted in a special logbook, available from NAK Shop at phone number 23 10 29 03, and all flights will be signed by your instructor. The practial part of the education is noted on a specialized form, where you as a student can follow your own development during the training sessions, and at any time know how far your education have commenced.
Solo flying:
After an education programme with instructor which takes between 10 to 15 hours, and you are able to show you are 100% confident with the aircraft, you are ready for your first solo flight. After completing the first solo under supervision of your instructor companied with a signature your logbook, you are ready to fly alone in a limited geographical area, under your instructors direct control with an agreement about the exercise which shall be trained. There is two conditions which applies before you can fly solo, and that is a completed and positive medical check in addition to a passed theoretical exam. In addition to eht elementary flight exercises, the education also includes check of the airplane, navigation, landing without engine, stalling in level flight, and stalling in turns.
Full licence:
After minimum 25 hours flying you can enter the final test in front of a head instructor or a educational manager of class 1. Then you need to show you are able to plan and complete a longer flight in an area you are not familiar with and havent flown to before. You are alowed to fly whereever and whenever with you new Sport Pilot Licence after passing this test. After getting it, the time has comed to experience the landscape and really enjoy the joy of flying.
Check out for carrying a passenger:
Maybe you want to share the experience with someone after a while, and then the next step is a passenger check out. Efter minmum 50 hours flying you can take a passenger check out with your instructor, and you will need to proove athat you can plan and execute a flight with a passenger who is completely inexperienced with flying. You will also be tested in handling the airplane in critical low speeds close to stalling speeds, and that you are able to take the plane out of a starting spin before the spin develop to a full and potentially dangerous full spin. After passed check out you are allowed to fly unlimited with a passenger in a two seater airsplane. The passenger check out is only valid if the pilot in the last 89 days have had airtime of minimum two hours, with minimum 5 takeoffs and landings the last 30 days.
Renewing your Sport Pilot Licence:
Mikroflygeren skal før flyging innenfor de siste 24 måneder ha avlagt en periodisk flygetrening (PFT) med instruktør av klasse 2 eller høyere på et mikrofly av samme kategori beviset gjelder for. En PFT består av en teoriprøve pluss en kontroll av kandidatens ferdigheter med utkikksrutiner, valg av flyruter og høyder, svinger, sakteflyging, steiling, avverging av spinn, landingsrunder og landinger.
Renewing a Sport Pilot Licence which have expired:
Ultralight pilots which have had a full licence, but letting it expire, can have this issued again after the same rules as described in the section above, The instuctor will determine if the candidate needs more education or theoretical training before the licence can be issued.
Converting from weight shift to 3-axis Sport Pilot Licence or vice versa:
In order to convert from weight-shift to 3-axis or vice versa, the whole education program for the respective student cards need to be followed. It is the instructor which then determined when the candidate are ready to take the full test, but it will normally take between 10 and 20 hours. The final test will need to be done with an instructor of class 1. The candidate will also have to do a theoretical test according to PFT.
Continuing to private plane licence (PPL_A). The ones which have a sport pilot licence for 3-axix can move on to get a licence for a private plane. The candidate will need a minimum of 45 hours in addition to a passed exam in the PPL-A theory (JAR-FCL incl. radio telephony certificate). 10% of the flying hours from Sport Pilot Licence can be added to the training. These are limited to a maximum of 10 hours, included in the 45 obligatory hours.
Converting from PPL-A or a Sailplane licence to Sport Pilot Licence. Quite a few private plane and sailplane pilots wish to fly Ultralights also, and will then need at least 5 hours with converting training to Ultralights with an instructor in order to get a full Sport Pilot Licence. This demands also that the candidate does a full theoretical exams before the R2 licence can be issued. It is actually more demanding to fly an ultralight then the average private plane, this applies specially for the ultralights which two stroke engines where there is special considerations to be aware of in order to avoid engine stops in mid air. In order to be allowed to bring a passenger, the candidate which was previously a PPL-A holder, need to have been flying a minimum of 50 hours, where minimum 10 of these are on an ultralight. |
